Swaffield School

School Lunch Menu

Parents/children should choose whether they will have a hot meal or bring a packed lunch for each half term. If you wish to change this the School Office will need a minimum of one weeks' notice otherwise we will assume your child's choice remains constant.

This is our school lunch from Monday 19th February 2024 to end of Summer Term:

All meals are freshly cooked  on the premises and our varied and balanced menu runs on a three-week cycle.

We have a lovely lunch hall with tablecloths and bonsai trees to make the environment calm and enjoyable for children to eat with friends.
We encourage great table manners and an enjoyment of food as well as an interest in trying new things.

From September 2023, every child in Reception, and Years 1 to 6 are able to receive a free meal at school. For Reception to Year 2 this is as part of a government scheme; for Years 3 to 6 this is thanks to a scheme from the London Mayor. On joining Swaffield, you will need to:

Register using this form for children joining NurseryDownload a free school meal application form here.

If you would have qualified for a free meal anyway, we need to know so that the school does not miss out on valuable additional funding called Pupil Premium.
This extra money allows us to provide additional resources and equipment that will benefit your child, so it is imperative that we have this information.

Packed Lunch

You may choose to provide your child with a packed lunch. Please remember, this must be healthy and in line with our packed lunch guidance.

Your Child's Choice of Meal

This is our system for choosing meals:

For Nursery and Reception

Parents need to choose their child's meals by handing in a copy of the menu with their
child's meal selection for the whole three-week cycle.
If parents would prefer their child to select their own meal each day,
then they should inform the school.

For children in Year 1 to Year 6
Children from Year 1 upwards may choose their own meal when they go to the servery.
Our lunchtime staff are on hand to supervise the dining hall.

All children will be encouraged to eat their school meal. They will be required to take at least
one portion of vegetables although there is also bread and salad available as an alternative.

Packed Lunches

If you choose to send your child to school with a packed lunch the school staff will assume that you want them to eat what you have provided for them. They will be encouraged to eat it all.
If the school staff feel that your child does not have sufficient in their packed lunch OR that they have not eaten very much for lunch a letter will be sent home to inform you.

Please also read our Packed Lunch and Whole School Food Policy which you'll find on our Policies page.

Swaffield is a NUT-FREE school

Please ensure there is nothing containing nuts
or nut products in your child's packed lunch.

How to Pay

For Nursery children, the price of a school meal is £2.85 and you must pay for at least one week (5 days)
in advance on a Monday (or the first day of the school week).

You may pay in advance for any number of meals and when your child is absent from school or on a school visit/trip your account will not be charged.

How Much Does It Cost?

Thanks to government subsidies, school milk is free for all under-fives and is subsided at around £15 a term for children aged five or older.

What Are The Benefits Of School Milk?

School milk provides your child with essential nutrients such as calcium and protein, for strong, healthy teeth and bones.

It is also rehydrating and energy boosting, helping to bridge the long gap between breakfast and lunch so children stay focused.

What goes on in the Playground at Lunchtime?

As part of Swaffield's continuous commitment to improvement, we look at our outdoor spaces, how they are being used, particularly during playtimes and how we can improve the whole experience.

We always include the children and staff in the decision making for any changes
and we have support from the governors and the parents.

The play areas are zoned so that a variety of games and activities can be available every day.
We have a dedicated team of staff who are happy to engage with the children
as well as looking after their welfare and safety.
The range of activities is changed every day and the children get the
opportunity to decide what is on offer.
