Swaffield achieves Artsmark Gold!

We are celebrating achieving a prestigious Artsmark Award at Gold level for the fourth consecutive time - that's a whole decade at this very high standard!

Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports them to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education across the whole curriculum, bringing learning to life for children and young peopl

In order to achieve their Artsmark Award, Swaffield School had to develop their arts and culture provision to embed a broad and balanced curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

The Artsmark assessor commended Swaffield School for its continuing commitment to providing a wide range of high-quality and authentic arts and cultural experiences for pupils. They commented that youth voice is another strong area and said it is good to read about the positive impact Swaffield’s Art Ambassadors are having in actively involving many young people in art with positive outcomes. Additionally, the assessor praised Swaffield School for continuing to provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to showcase their work.

On receiving the award, Julia Hamilton, Head Teacher said:

“We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Gold Award for a fourth consecutive time. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education at Swaffield and we look forward to continue to grow with Artsmark.”

Sarah Parr, Arts Lead at Swaffield School, said:

“Our curriculum design covers a wide range of high-quality and diverse provision across our school throughout the school year. All pupils relish learning in our Arts and Media Studio which has a modern industrial style; the room is an inspirational environment and includes fabulous new technology. We happily showcase our children’s work each year in our annual Summer Art exhibition where the Swaffield Community enjoys viewing Art from all pupils. Visitors willingly leave their comments e.g. “I am truly astonished at the beautiful and thought-provoking art. My children’s perspective, understanding and confidence has grown immensely over the last year”.

Dr Darren Henley OBE, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, said:

“I would like to congratulate Swaffield School on their Artsmark Award. Becoming an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and resilience, increasing their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them through to adult life.”
