Religious Education
Swaffield School believes that Religious Education should provide a contemporary study of religion, preparing children for later life.
Our aim is for children to learn not only 'about' different religions and world views, but also to increase their depth of understanding by encouraging them to consider what they can learn 'from' different religions.
The school bears in mind that the British Isles is a multi-cultural nation which has Christianity as the main religion of the indigenous population. As a result, Christianity will receive the appropriate weighting within the religious education curriculum. Due consideration within this framework will be given to other faiths. Respect, tolerance and understanding for the beliefs of others will be promoted as part of our programme.
The school follows Wandsworth’s Locally Agreed Syllabus.
Parents have the right to withdraw children from religious lessons and daily worship in assemblies but it must be understood that such activities link to other learning within the classroom.
