PSHE

PSHE stands for Personal, Social and Health Education and is part of our curriculum at Swaffield.

PSHE covers a range of different subjects and these are taught in an age-appropriate way for each year group which also takes account of the different cultural and religious positions of our pupils.

Sex and Relationships Education

Sex and Relationships Education at Swaffield is planned in the context of a broad and balanced programme of PSHE (personal, social and health education) from early years of schooling.

It is set within the framework of the National Curriculum and taught through topics wherever possible.

Sex relationships education is also set within a more holistic moral framework which takes into account different cultural and religious standpoints and as such contributes to ensuring the well-being and safeguarding of our children.

You can read our Sex and Relationships Education Policy here.

These are our Schemes of Work for this subject by year group.

We write to parents/carers to inform them when their child’s class will be having Sex & Relationship Education lessons.

Although participation is highly recommended, parents are allowed to withdraw their children. We would like the opportunity to discuss any withdrawal with you to ensure there are no misunderstandings about the nature of the programme and in order to clarify which parts of the programme are statutory and required by the National Curriculum. We therefore request that you speak to your child’s class teacher before making your decision. In any case, parents wishing to exercise their right to withdraw must inform the school in writing. We ask that you complete and sign a form, available from the school office.
